Its been forever since I posted anything...job and going back to school has been keeping me very busy. I don't have much time to write, but I had to share that we are having another ANNUAL LUAU! So excited! Everyone get your Lei's and get ready to Hula.

Also we are going camping this weekend for 3 days on beautiful Lake Harris in the Adirondacks. Looking forward to swimming, canoeing and basking in the sun. YAY!

Working Girl

Yes....I got a JOB!!!! YAY!
I am so happy to finally have a job. Although I am quickly discovering how difficult it is to schedule other things in life around work...definitely not as easy as a work study job. But I like it and it pays decent. And even thought I was originally not thrilled at the thought of working in a deli...I find that I actually enjoy it. All the people I work with are really nice and fun, the pace is fast and work flies by. Before I know it... its the end of the day (and who doesn't like that?!). There is always something to do and I even get to "cook." I put cook in quotation marks because I'm really just mixing pre-packaged ingredients together, heating or frying something. But I like working with food, so the deli is a good fit for me. Although let me just say that the uniform is definitely not the sexiest thing I've ever seen. Today some guy wouldn't stop asking me about my hair net and then told me never to wear it on a date...what an ass! Like I'd wear a hair net on a date!

Anyways...

Working at the horse farm is going well. I've taken a short vacation from it just to get my self into the groove of working while everyone else is too. But next week its back to the horsies and poop for me! I'm already getting warm and fuzzy inside just thinking about shoveling horse poo ;)

As for tonight...

Tonio is playing for the 8th grade graduation and whenever out Mozart/Beethoven/Bach child preforms we all go watch. And then I plan on going to bed early because I'm tired as hell for being up this morning @ 5 for work. It's been awhile since I had to get up that early and man was it hard to pull myself out of bed today.

Good Things

It's like everyone said....you won't have anything come your way for a long time and then all of a sudden, everything you've been hoping for happens!

Yesterday I finally had a promising interview with Walmart. It went so well that they asked me to stay for 2 interviews back to back, each time with someone who was higher in management. And then they asked me to come back for a 3rd interview today! I'm so excited and am really hoping that I get this job....and another 1 or 2!!!

Also late yesterday I received an email from Peaceful Acres (a rescue horse farm in Pattersonville that works with women's groups and children in therapy) and they finally "ok"ed me to volunteer!! I'm really excited to be able to be around horses again and the exposure to the unique therapy that they do will be a great experience and an asset to my resume. They want me to come on Saturday to get squared away with times and procedures...so hopefully I'll be working there very soon.

Everything seems to be looking much brighter. I am looking forward to finally being employed...and even if they don't hire me, I'll at least have volunteer work to keep me busy until I do find something. I am really enjoying being home and have made lots of plans with friends to catch up. And I am also excited for a new year..as a SOPHOMORE!!! (can't believe I've already got a year behind me!)... I have a b-e-a-utiful dorm to look forward to, some really interesting classes and of course the exciting Big Apple!

SUMMER

It feels soooo good to finally be home for 4 Months! I've been home for almost 3 weeks now (the time has just flown) and I have been very busy. The 1st week was spent getting ready for our annual 5 de Mayo party (it was on the 15th though), which was of course a blast. Everyone had a great time, especially with the pinata.

Then the following week was spent trying to fix out kitchen. Let me just say how much I hate Venetian plaster and wall paper. Trying to fix the kitchen quickly, we applied the plaster over top of the paper. However because of all of the moisture, the paper started to separate from the walls and so too the plaster. So this past week we finally decided to tackle the problem... it's still not fixed.

Then last Thursday Antonio came with me to the Big Apple. I had to take my last EMT test late that night and so I told him I'd take him with, we'd explore the city during the day and then head to Queens in the evening. Tonio had a great time. We walked all over Times Square, visited the King Tut exhibit there (they had his body there...it was sooooo awesome!!!!)m, ate great Italian food at a hole-in-the-wall restaurant we found, played in Central Park and then road the subways everywhere. Those were Antonio's first subway rides...he was disgusted ;)

And then this week has been spent doing lots of yard work, again tackling the kitchen and other little projects. I have been steadily trying to find a job....its not going so well. So if you know anyone who is looking for someone to do house or yard work, I'm the girl to call. I'll do anything at this point.

And other than that, I am just enjoying being home and soaking in some rays.

3 More Days!

And so the count down begins! I am so excited! Today Mom and John are coming to take the rest of my things away from this Hell-Hole they call a dorm. I can't wait to finally walk around barefoot without fear of catching some horrible skin disease! Yes it is really that bad...I am NOT exaggerating...just ask Mom.

So last night I was packing and then something quite irritating happened. For some reason, the last 2 days, none of our keys have worked to get into the front door. We of course called maintenance and no one came :( so when Marguerrita and I were trying to get rid of all the garbage and recycling we closed the door without bolting the door! We had to wait until 2 am for the RA's to come to the resource center and help us. It was really annoying.

Other than that I have one more test and then I'm home free! YAY!

I can see the LIGHT...@ the end of the finals tunnel!

I am so close to Summer Break! God I can't wait to no longer go to class and finally have a break from everything. I love the City and NYU, but this semester has just been a bit much and I am so ready for it all to be over.

I have two more finals and a paper to turn in and then I'm free! Tomorrow is Chemistry Lab final and then on Monday I have a Calculus final and this weekend my paper is due in an email. All in all, I'm only days away from 4 beautiful months of Summer Vacation!

I do have some plans for the break. I plan on volunteering at a horse farm in Pattersonville that uses horses as therapy for troubled kids and women's groups. It is all really interesting and I'm really excited to be volunteering there. Still looking for a job, keep me in mind if you know of anything! And as for the rest of the time, I'll be studying (but only a LITTLE!) to prepare myself for next semester...and the rest of the time I'm going to be partying it up!

I can't wait for bonfires, playing with my puppy, cook-out on the grill and relaxation.

I am also excited for our upcoming Quince de Mayo party (I'm sure you're all confused, but I couldn't be home to see y'all for cinco de mayo!). Looking forward to yummy food and everyone's company. And of course later this summer, we'll be having our annual Luau! So many parties!!!!

Sorry I have been so bad about keeping y'all informed. I have been so freaking busy, I feel like barely have time to breath sometimes. So now I'll update everyone....

Part of the reason for me not keeping up on the blog was that my computer decided to crap out on me. I was computer-less for 2 weeks!!! I thought I was going to die (not really but it was a major pain in the ass!). Anyways, for 2 weeks I was on the phone constantly with Dell, trying to get someone to help me to fix the damn machine. And then finally someone came to my rescue. So now I'm up and running again and hope to stay that way after having a technician install a completely new hard drive. Then on Thursday night I was telling a friend all about my technical woes. He said he's never had a problem with Dell and usually computer problems are because of the people using them. I gave him a nasty look and he didn't say anything again the rest of the night. I'm just keeping my fingers crossed that the problem has been solved;)

Anyway....I also have some very exciting news!!! I am almost a certified EMT!!!! Last Thursday I took the practical portion of the exam and passed!!! Now I just have the written exam later in May and I'll be an EMT! I am so excited. I was so nervous for the test because my classmate who took it on Monday all failed at least one station (you can fail 2 and retake them, but no more or you're out). I just kept thinking...I have done all this work and I will be so mad id I have to do it all over again! But I didn't have to redo even 1...YAY! So tonight and tomorrow I'll be on the streets in NYC riding in the ambulance and maybe I'll get to save some lives!!! So cool.

Summer is also right around the corner. I am caught in between counting down the hours, minutes and seconds till I get to go home and dreading the finals I have to take before I get a break. I always thought that was so cruel...in order to have something great like break, you have to go through test taking Hell first. GRRR! Oh well. I am just trying to make sure I'm prepared for finals and keep my chin up.

I really can't wait till summer though. I feels like I have really had no break since last summer. I'm looking forward to just taking it easy, playing with my puppy and working, so I'm not so poor next year. Although I still haven't found a job...I'm still working on it. All in all I am SSOOOO ready to relax! I was going to go to Peru, but I didn't manage to raise enough money for my trip. So for now I am saving the money in the bank and going to keep fundraising for a trip next year. I'm a little disappointed but I'm just excited to be going home. Let the summer fun come soon!

Until then however I'm still studying and going to class. Last week was my last at my job. All the kids and teachers kept asking if I was going to come back. One boy I help said, "You're never coming back?!" when I was saying goodbye to the teachers. They are so cute!

I am really proud of myself with how much i accomplished this year and am excited for the next. I can barely believe that I'm almost a sophomore in college!

back to the City

Well after a week of being home...it's time to go back to the Big Apple :( As usual break wasn't long enough and my professors had a laugh at my expense by assigning essays and a midterm to study for over what used to be called "break." Jerks...

Of course being homes means its impossible to not have fun. We had lots of laughs and a party last night...the first outdoor party and bonfire of 2010! Good times. But today I have to pack. Its back to the grindstone and studying. ICHY.

I do have another visit home to look forward to. For Easter I'm free for a few days to come home... but after that no more free time to come home.

Its all good though. Spring semester has been going by very quickly. Before I know it...it'll be time for finals and then I'll get a whole summer to relax. YAY! I can't wait.

I hope everyone enjoys the nice weather and prays that it just keeps getting better. Keep me in your thoughts as chemistry is kicking my ass...I'll get through though.

Let it Snow...Snow...Snow!

I woke up this morning to my madre calling me (love you!) and realized that my alarm never went off. Once again I forgot to make sure my alarm was properly set in order to do what its supposed to do...wake me the hell up! However I was pleasantly surprised to find that there was at least a foot of snow outside, forcing NYU to cancel all classes for that day.

OOO-WWWHHHOOO!

There's something yo need to understand about NYU in order to thoroughly enjoy this moment with me. NYU is like the postal service. Neither rain nor shine, nor snow nor hail could keep NYU from demanding that we attend classes. I think they might remain open even if tornadoes were on a rampage through the city. So when I woke up I was sure I'd have to trudge through the mess.....NOT TODAY THOUGH!!!!

So what, you may ask, am I going to do with my snow day? Well first I went back to sleep, I'm mean that was just a given. Now I'm going to attempt to motivate my self to get ahead on my homework and begin to study or my next round of midterms. OOOO Goodie!

However tonight I also have to travel to Queens in this inclement weather, to do my 2nd ride-along in the ambulance. I'm so excited! My shift is from 12-5 am, so I should get plenty of good calls. And with the weather as bad as it is, maybe I'll get to go to my first car accident!!! Now I might sound like a horrible person, but so you understand, I'll share a secret with y'all. EMTs and other health care providers love when they get called to deal with an emergency. They get all excited and warm and fuzzy inside. Sure we don't want anything bad to happen to people, but it sure is fun to take care of the emergency when something does happen.

One long week

If you haven't heard, yesterday mom and john had to put Sharise to sleep. The old kitty just didn't have anything left in her I guess. But she had a good, long life and God knows she was spoiled as hell. We'll miss you putty-tat!

It's only Wednesday and it feels as if a month has passed. So far the week has only seemed to bring lousy news/days and the grey weather certainly isn't helping. It's just one of those weeks. I guess.

I am looking forward to the weekend though. I have another ride along at the God awful hours of 12am - 5am! That should be interesting seeing as all the crazy people are out. And some where in between a ride along, homework and EMT class, I need to find time to eat and catch up on my sleep. We'll see how that goes.

I was very discouraged earlier with a bad grade on my Chemistry exam. I'm trying to not let it bother me too much and just focus on the steps I need to take to get better. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

So 1st apologies are in order. Several people have made me aware that I have been slacking on my updating duties...SORRY! And thanks to those of you who do check to see what I'm up to... I'll try to be better @ keeping you all in the loop.

However the reason for my lack of updating is that I have been extremely busy. When I signed up for all of my classes, decided to take this EMT class and told my job I'd be coming back to work I was under the impression that everything would keep me busy, but nothing unmanageable. However on several occasion already I have come exceedingly close to the breaking point. If I'm not running to one place, I'm waiting in the subway, studying, to catch a train to start running again. It's been Crazy. I haven't talked to any of my friends in a month...I'm sure they think I died or something. And I have only been at this for a month...when I come home I fear that I may need to be submitted to some psychiatric ward. But against all odds, I am having fun and hanging in there.

So as for my love life.....(ha, ha, ha)... certain family members (cough, cough ANITA!) have been asking me if I have a boyfriend yet. NYC old men seem to love me(I get whistles from creepy old men everyday on my way to work). And if that's not a plus, there's always the NYU male pool. When I decided to come to NYU I didn't realize that I was selecting a school with such a low boy to girl ratio. About 60% of the university is female and 40% is male. Now that may not sound to bad...BUT...take that 40% and cut it in half and now you have to percentage of STRAIGHT men in attendance at NYU. It's tragic really. With that I mind, few boys I meet (who are straight) have been appealing. Either I'm friends with them and not attracted to them, they are such asses that I would rather die a spinster than date one, OR they are so stupid I find myself wondering how the managed to get into NYU.

So with such a small male population available to me, I've been forced to lesbianism (it's not what you think...really). I met this girl in my EMT class. Now she seemed perfectly normal and we hit it off really well the first day. I was excited cause I now had a friend in the class and wouldn't have to sit awkwardly by my lonesome. However the next class she decided to reveal her life story to me and start flirting with me. It's a long story but it basically boils down to she's 21, has wanted a kid since she was 17(but holds out cause she know she can't afford one...OMG really?!), had drinking problem to the point where her liver is permanently f'-ed up and has thought she found "the one" several times, but is still on the look out (HINT HINT HINT!!!!). All of this she revealed in the span of maybe 1.5 hours as I sat with her in a pizza shop doing an EMT test together. HOW DO I GET MYSELF INTO THESE SORT OF SITUATIONS? AND CAN ANYONE TELL ME HOW TO NICELY GET RID OF HER?

Enough about love... chem and I are already in a permeate love-hate relationship...so I've got enough relationship issues for now. I just took my 1st chem midterm and well...I don't want to talk about it. I studied more than I have ever for chemistry and think it still wasn't enough. It was incredibly hard and I didn't even have enough time to answer every question even as I raced through the ones I could get done. Everyone I talked to after said they couldn't believe our professor had just done that to us (good thing cause i didn't want to be the only person who thought it was insane!). So as if my life isn't already devoted to chemistry, I will now be sleeping with my chem text book every night. Maybe the knowledge will magically seep into my head at night...a girl can hope.

But I'm still struggling forward with being a pre-med. I knew it was going to be hard, so I'm not going to give up just because I've hit an obstacle. I've suffered to much already to just give up...and I want it too badly. Although to be honest it's really discouraging when people are drooping out of pre-med like flies. I guess that's the point...weed out those who are serious and those who aren't. Although why anyone would decide on pre-med out of a whim is beyond me...it's torture some days. So for now I'm crossing my fingers, sticking to my plan and taking each day one at a time.

I hope everyone is doing well and I miss you all tons. Unfortunately with my crazy schedule, I'll probably only get to come home for spring break...so maybe I'll see some of you. I'm already looking forward to the summer. I love the City immensely, but it really makes me a appreciate home a lot more, when I get the chance to go. On that note, I hope this absurdly long blog will satisfy y'all until I have the time to update everyone again. Sending my Love!

CRAZINESS

So I have finished one week of classes and an well into my second official week of Spring 2010 classes! So crazy. It really feels like only yesterday that I was beginning my Fall semester. I am already busy if that's even possible. For those of you who don't know I am currently taking Chemistry 2, Writing 2, Calculus, and Spanish 2! (lots of 2s in there;) Also I have taken on the enormous responsibility of getting my EMT certifications. So as if I didn't have enough to study I also have to stay on top of my life saving skills. YIKES! But I am living by my trusty companion OUTLOOK and so far, all is running smoothly. I am also working again at a middles school in Manhattan as a tutor. (ya know sometimes I just wanna kill'em) The school must have liked me though because everyone was very happy to see me today. Anyways, I have just wasted valuable study/homework/study time, but we all got to keep sane some how. Happy New Year! Hope everyone stays as blissfully crazy as I am!

A NEW YEAR

It's been quite a while since I've written anything so I figured I better keep this thing updated and write something.

With a New Year comes several new steps in my life:
1. I am soon going to be starting my second semester as a college girl! Its so crazy. It feels like just yesterday I was trying to figure out what to do with with myself and my life. And now I'm going to school in the City, getting involved and getting closer everyday to my goals.

2. I had an amazing meeting with a gentleman in charge of the EMT corps in Amsterdam. I think I made a good impression and he may even give me a job riding with his team on my breaks! Also he helped me tons with fitting myself out with EMT gear. I can't wait to suit up!

3. In May I'll be going to Cuzco, Peru to provide medical care. I can't wait to go explore a new part of the world and help people in need.

So many New adventures for 2010!

Only one more day until I get to go home! I can't wait. Only one final stands in my way...Chemistry. But when I'm done, I'll be free!

I am so looking forward to seeing my puppy again...and my family too of course.

Not to mention my mom's good food...dorm food is really not that great, especially when you've eaten it all summer and fall. YUCK!

Only a few more days till Christmas Eve. I can't to give everyone their presents...you're going to love them! And maybe I'll even get to see some friends. Let the Partying begin!

EXAMS

So I had my first college final exam....

And it was not that bad. I studied hard and think I did well. We'll see in a few weeks. Now I have 2 more exams to go and a paper to turn in before I'm free for the first real break since spring break of senior year! I can't believe how quickly time has passed. It seems like only yesterday that I was trying to decide where to spend the next 4 years of my life and ultimately to decide what to do with my life. Actually it was a whole year ago! Craziness....

Anyways I can't wait to be going home. The moment I get out of my Chemistry Final, I'll be running to the train station.

Christmas Fun in NYC!

Marguerritta (my roommate) and I went out on the town today, before we have to lock ourselves in our dorm and study for the finals that will determine our admission into medical school. AHHH! But before all of that we decided to go out for some fresh air and holiday cheer. We hit the South Street Seaport, Rockefeller Center and Times Square, with many placed in between.

Thanks Everyone, for being so patient. Medlife and I are doing the best we can to get more scarves. But everyone in our chapter is selling them just a fast as I am. I only managed to get my hands on 4 more scarves today, before they were all gone. But I have been assured that a huge order will be arriving within the next few weeks. I understand that many of you plan to give these scarves as gifts so I am doing my very best to get them to you in time.

However, if for some reason, I cannot get the scarves to everyone in time, I will send a card and letter for you to give your friends and family, detailing the origins of the scarves, Medlife as an organization and finally that their scarf will arrive soon. I apologize for any inconvenience!

I wanted to again thank everyone for all of your support. It really means a lot to me that you were so willing to help me help an organization that I feel does very important work. For those of you who don't know... I am on the PreMed track, at NYU, and participating in Medical Brigades is something I plan on continuing even after I receive a medical license.

As for the scarves...
More are being ordered now! Our NYU Medlife chapter has been so successful in selling scarves, that our president had to place an order for more! I told her about every persons specific request and she assured me that she would do her best to get me what you have all asked for. Today she emailed me, telling me the newest shipment should be in in 1-2 weeks. I'll keep you posted and put pictures of the new scarves on my blog as soon as I get them.

1st EMT Training Course

Well I had my first EMT Training course today. It was along and grueling 5.5 hour long session, where I had to listen to a lecture and participate in a lab portion, where we put our new knowledge to the test. And little did I know, when I walked through the door that we would have a final at the end of the session. After hours of new material, the instructor announced that in order to receive our certification for the lesson we would have to pass the final! I was nervous and they only gave us a few minutes to review the material.

Unfortunately I don't think I did very well. The information that stuck in my brain were the procedures, when to what and how to respond to patients needs...all things that were not the main focus of the exam. I'll be notified of my score this coming week, so keep your fingers crossed for me!

I just wanted to say thanks to all of you who have already purchased a scarf or more, to help me fund raise for a very worthy cause.

For those of you who would like to know a little more about where your money will be going...
Every year, MEDLIFE sends 3 medical Brigades to either Peru or Ecuador. Every brigade requires MEDLIFE members to raise $5000 to send doctors and medicine to these two countries. So with each scarf that you buy, we can afford to send more medicine and supplies to very deserving and in need communities.

A little background about the scarf you are purchasing...
Each scarf has been hand woven by Ecuadorian women in the community of Cebadas, Ecuador. They are very beautiful and soft works of art. Medlife bought the scarves from the local women in an effort to help the local economy and has now turned it into a unique fundraiser. We buy the scarves and sell them, to simply send the money right back to the people.

Once again thank you to everyone who has and will be a part of a worthy cause. I appreciate your help on behalf of MEDLIFE and the people that we help.

I just got my acceptance letter from NYU EMS. NYU EMS is a newly established emergency medical service here at NYU. Soon I will beginning classes to train to go out there and save lives. Then in the spring, when I've completed all of my requirements, I can begin riding with an ambulance corps. and officially working as a n EMT! I am so excited to begin my medical career so soon!

1st Medlife Fundraiser

Hello!

I have gotten my first official assignment from Medlife. I have to sell scarves brought back from Ecuador during the last Brigade. The scarves are beautiful and hand-made by the local women where the Brigade works! As you can see! And they are so soft! If your interested, 1 scarf is $15 and 2 scarves are $25. They make great presents for Christams and All the proceeds go to Medlife to pay for the medical supplies we will be taking to Ecuador and Peru. Also if you would like, please donate to my Medlife account. I am required to help fund raise $5000 so every little bit helps!

I have just been accepted into MEDLIFE!
What is Medlife you might ask?

Well..... it is an organization that provides much needed medical and dental care to communities in Peru and Ecuador. Every year, the NYU chapter sends 2 "Medical Brigades" to these 2 countries. For a week we will see hundreds of patients, trying to meet every person's needs.

It's a rainy day in the Big Apple. So today promises to be uneventful. I'll be busy cleaning this pig sty(damn filthy roommates!), working on homework and doing laundry. Maybe I'll be "adventurous" and go see a movie tonight!
